The Plan
Cally and her friend Bean were walking down the street from school, towards their apartments. Cally lived in Tower 13 room 7. Bean lived in Tower 14 room 30. It was 2:30 on a sunny June afternoon. They were going to work together on a school project at Bean’s house at 3:30. It was about how to raise a dog. Cally was so excited she forgot all about the other part of the project she had prepared. “I need to get my laptop first,” Cally said. “OK,” Bean answered “I’ll be waiting,” and they waved goodbye.
As soon as Bean arrived at her tower, she beeped her card and took the elevator to the 3rd floor. She unlocked her door, and threw her backpack on her bed. She checked her phone to see if anyone had sent her a message. No one had, so Bean decided to take a shower as usual. When she finished, Bean opened the shower door, and the steam burst out. Bean looked at the clock, 2:57. She waited 30 minutes for Cally to arrive. Still no Cally. Bean let out a big sigh and lost herself in a video game. Cally never did show up.
The Kidnapping
After Bean awoke from her game, it was already 4:00. She was surprised how long she had been playing for. Bean didn’t know WHAT was up with Cally so she walked over to Tower 13 and took the elevator to the 1st floor. She walked over to room 7 and was shocked to see the door open. Had someone stolen Cally?
Bean knocked on the door next to Cally’s apartment nervously. A terrified Frank opened the door and started blasting words into Bean’s face “This is terrible! First I heard a “Oh no!” then I heard a “It’s time for YOU to…” Frank paused and took a big breath, “I think Cally’s b-been KIDNAPPED!” Bean stared wide-eyed as her jaw dropped. “We should start looking for clues first,” she said in a stern voice. Both Frank and Bean started inspecting the floor very closely for any dropped items. “Aha!” Bean said lifting a finger. Frank walked over as Bean pointed at a trail of tiny little mushy brown footprints leading from room 7 to room 6.
Poogy
“Well,” Frank said, “It looks like somebody, or something, with tiny mushy brown footprints took Cally to room 6.” “Do you remember anyone coming out of that apartment?” Bean asked Frank. “Never,” he answered. “But I did hear weird noises.” “I know!” Bean exclaimed, “We’ll just have to call Cally and see if she picks up.” Frank and Bean tried calling Cally. “Bring-bring…bring-bring…bring-bring…” No one answered for 3 minutes so they decided they needed more clues. “Maybe Cally’s angry at me for something.” “We haven’t checked Cally’s room yet,” Frank suggested. “Good idea. Let’s go.”
Slowly they walked into Cally’s apartment to find her laptop open on her bed. Bean leaned over and read the following that was typed on the screen: “1. Take shower 2. Wash clothes 3. Wash Poogy.” “Who’s Poogy?” Frank asked.
Going Nowhere
They stood clueless in Cally’s apartment feeling like they had done nothing but snoop around. “We are not getting anywhere,” Frank said as he punched the bed lightly. “We can’t give up now,” Bean declared. “Cally is our friend, and we should save her!”
“I think it’s time to call Cally again,” Bean insisted. “It’s been a while, maybe the person was busy tying her up or something. And plus, those footprints were so small, how big could this person be?” “Fine,” Frank said in an annoyed voice. Bean took out her cellphone and dialed Cally’s number. “Bring-bring… bring-bring… bring-br-hello?” someone said in a squeaky voice. “Uhhhh…,” Bean said speechlessly “Who exactly is this?” “This is Cally, I’m in room 6…” “Well is it possible you could open the…” Just as Bean said that, Room 6’s door opened.
The Explanation
There stood a soaked Cally with a rag in her hand. “Hey…,” Cally said once again in a squeaky tone. Bean realized Cally had a clip on her nose. Right behind Cally, a little, brown, smelly dog popped out. “P.U.,” Frank said, waving his hand in the air. “This is Poogy,” Cally said in an exhausted voice. “I’m taking care of her for a while for our project to see how a real dog is,” Cally sighed. “It was way harder than I thought. I’m giving her away after. Poogy pooped everywhere and is very smelly.” Bean had already started playing with Poogy. “I kept Poogy by herself in her own room because she was too dirty to keep in my own. But today I forgot I needed to wash her, and somehow I also forgot to lock the door, so she came jumping out and banging my door.”
After everything was settled and all the explaining had been done, Frank went home satisfied that no one had been kidnapped. Cally worked on their project with Bean at Tower 14 room 30. “I still don’t understand why Frank heard an `Oh no!’,” Bean told Cally. “Oh, I said that because I had forgotten I had to wash Poogy and wouldn’t be able to come work on the project.” With all the questions answered, Bean said goodbye to Cally as she left for home.
